Shawn Carey has filled the shoes of Eric Schwarzenegger as he became the new Assistant Principal at Middletown High School.
Carey took the job following Schwarzenegger’s transfer to Brunswick.
Carey’s education background consists of a Bachelor’s degree in teaching from Shepherd University and a Masters for leadership at Hood College.
Carey has been working in schools for thirty one years. He first started out teaching science at Monocacy Middle School. He has worked at many schools across Frederick county including Frederick High, Tuscarora, and TJ High.
Along with teaching Carey has also coached football within those thirty one years. He has even coached here at Middletown for about three to four years.
“I have some ties back to Middletown. It’s nice to be back.” He says.
Carey came to Middletown from Thomas Johnson High School where he was one of the Assistant Principals. He describes the switch of schools as “a good change.” and talks about the differences due to the population difference in the two schools. The biggest difference being that here at Middletown he is able to get to know students better.
Carey’s goal has not changed from when he started teaching. He intends to enhance the day of each student he interacts with.
“I don’t think my goals have really changed from when I was a teacher to now, It’s just we do it differently in different ways.” He says.
Family is very important to Carey. He likes to spend his free time with his two kids and his wife.
“Together as a family we try to do things together as much as we can.” He says
Carey is unsure of how long he will be at Middletown but he says “I plan on ending my career here.”
