Shawn Carey has taken a role at Middletown High School as the new assistant principal. Taking the role from the previous assistant principal Eric Schwarzenegger.
Carey has had many previous teaching experiences. He has been teaching in schools for about thirty years. Some schools include Frederick High, TJ High, and Tuscarora.
Mr. Carey has also previously taught middle school science classes at Monocacy middle school
He has an education background for teaching including a bachelor’s degree for teaching from Shepherd University. He also has a masters degree in leadership from Hood College.
Along with teaching in Frederick county schools, he has also coached football. One of the teams he coached was our own Middletown High school. He also mentions how Middletown’s coach Cutsail was a part of the team that he had coached.
Everyday as an assistant principal Carey says that he mainly helps students and when needed he helps discipline.
He mentioned that at Middletown there isn’t much discipline to do which is different from his previous schools.
“This is a good change- because here it’s more talking to get to know the students and students come to you with situations that you can help with.”
Carey’s first impressions coming to Middletown were “awesome”. He says how the kids when he first came to Middletown were very respectful and responsive.
When he came back to Middletown he mentioned similar things. “It was a good change”
