Last week was Spirit Week at Middletown High School. It was full of laughs, goofy costumes and a mystery knight.
The mystery knight went about the cafeteria during lunch time to hype people up for the pep rally, causing quite a stir in the process.
The mystery knight was not planned for the week but it added some zest to the fun and made the rally that much more exciting.
The person in the costume was none other than Peggy Throne, MHS’ recently retired guidance councilor.
However, instead of being a great mystery, most people figured out who was under the helmet by Thursday. Or like Paul Aniugo who said, “It’s Mrs. Throne, I can feel it!”
Throne was unmasked at the pep rally to cheers and hugs. She said that the idea had started as a kind of joke between her and Cynthia Anderson, MHS teacher, a long time ago.
Anderson said that her and Throne had been out at dinner when Anderson had brought up the ‘Mystery Knight’ topic and that Throne “loved it.”
Anderson had been in charge of the pep rally and Throne had been missing the students so everything worked out.
Although Throne and Anderson had intended the ‘Mystery Knight’ to remain a secret completely, they decided that it would be better for Throne to be un-helmed at the rally.
There were also hints that there might be more ‘Throne sightings’ later in the year…
