The 100 is a fairly new, yet very exciting, TV show that takes place in the future after the entire earth has been contaminated with deadly radiation. This radiation forces the few survivors to live in space in a craft called The Ark.
However, many years later, the space goers realize that oxygen on the craft will soon run out leaving Earth as their only possible option. One hundred teenage prisoners from The Ark are forced down to the ground to test out if life on Earth is once again possible.
The writers took this fantastical idea and were able to create a very plausible story line with developed characters and a creative scene.
Being a science fiction show, it is seemingly difficult, based on other shows and movies, to make the plot seem real; however, because it is based on an issue that many people believe will happen one day, (radiation contamination), the audience can easily watch and relate it to what they think will happen.
Based on the way technology is advancing right now, it seems totally possible that one day humans will be able to live in space for a long period of time, as well, which the writers and directors wonderfully elaborate on. The writers always leave a cliffhanger or plot twist at the end of an episode, which is a good strategy to help cling onto viewers.
The script is creatively written to give each main character a detailed personality that seems to match the one of the actor playing the role. There is just enough comedic relief to lighten things up in the midst of all the drama and action, but it doesn’t seem misplaced.
The script is juicy with drama that consumes the audience into the show and leaves them wanting to know more. The dialogue is able to create a mood for the viewer that goes along with the plot and scene of the episodes.
A vivid sense of emotion is worked into the lines which make the audience feel connections, sympathy and empathy toward the characters.
Pared with a unbelievably written script, each actor is able to evoke the appropriate emotion into the lines and make the script his or her own. The talents put so much devotion into their work that one might hesitate to believe that it’s really just acting. The actors have unbelievable connections with one another, which make the plot seem even more believable.
Viewers can feel the love and hate the characters share, just as well as they can hear it in their words and see it in their actions.
The main character, Clark, who is played by the talented Eliza Taylor successfully, gives the audience a well-developed point of view to base their views and opinions on. Taylor flows well with each supporting character and bounces her talent off of theirs while being a beautiful and a well-put-together person, which makes guys want her and girls want to be her, adding to the overall popularity of the show.
Scene-setting for futuristic shows could be literally anything because its difficult to know what things will look like in the future. However, The 100 does an excellent job of creating a believable setting that mixes details about life from the present as well as what might be in the future.
There is also a very realistic feel to it. For example, there are no pink and yellow trees or huge bugs in the forest. Instead the producers incorporate a real-looking forest that’s overgrown because of years of being uninhabited, and characters called grounders who survived the radiation and use their resources from nature to live instead of electricity that would be impossible to harness because of lack of resources.
Such details in the scene make the show much more enjoyable and fun to watch.
Overall, the sci-fi drama, The 100, is a well-made and -directed show that will have viewers biting their nails off every week. Those who are into love stories, action, futuristic events and being surprised at every possible moment should watch The 100.
