From getting into the Naval Academy to be an all-star athlete, Middletown high school’s Patrick Moore wins the male student athlete award.
The Male-student athlete award commemorates high academics and outstanding athletics. Now what qualifies Moore for this award?
Mr.Crompton , social studies teacher at MHS and MHS Varsity lacrosse head coach, who has coached Moore for 3 years said his most defining attribute , “ is his character.” “There are a lot of good athletes,” said Crompton, “and there are a lot of smart students, and Patrick is great in both, but his 3rd thing that separates him from all else, is his character, his background, his faith and determination to get better.”
But the school isn’t the only one who has seen Moore work towards his goals. “I’ve coached Patrick for three years,” said Cromnpton, “And he’s always been a hard worker, but he’s never satisfied, he always wants to get better, win or lose. And that’s what has made him stronger.” A teammate of Moore on the MHS Varsity Lacrosse team, junior Evan Langley said Moore works for his goals every day.
Moore wasn’t born with a great determination, ethic he had inspiration. Moore said his biggest inspiration was his Dad, he “showed me how to have good work ethic and how to be a good person; he put me in the right path.”
Crompton believes Moore has set a great example for future athletes. Crompton said, “People will look back and see he is one of a kind,” and although it would be hard to be Moore, Crompton said, at least it gives student athletes “something to strive towards.”
This award didn’t come easy though. Moore said his biggest struggle was time; “there doesn’t seem enough to study and practice, so I have to sacrifice sleep.”
And Moore has tips for aspiring athletes. Moore says that a person’s “work ethic,” is what really stands out in people.
But Moore didn’t come by this award by himself, Moore said from “teachers to teammates, coaches, anybody I’ve come in contact with, so many have assisted me in my journey.”
As for Moore’s future, Moore is going to the U.S Naval Academy to study mechanical engineering and to hopefully become an officer.
