The Town of Middletown won the ‘Best Small Town’ category in the Frederick News Post’s 2021 Best of the Best contest. Many other Middletown locations won best of their category. Winners were announced Dec. 8.
Local award winners of the Best of the Best also include the Middletown Farmers’ Market for ‘Best Farmers Market’, Black Hog BBQ for ‘Best Barbecue Restaurant’, Grilled Cheese Please! for ‘Best Food Truck’, Aleko’s Village Cafe for ‘Best Greek Restaurant’, Deb’s Artisan Bakehouse for ‘Best Bakery’, Fratelli’s Italian & Seafood for ‘Best Crab Cakes’, South Mountain Creamery for ‘Best Frozen Treats’, Oak & Steel Furniture for ‘Best Home Decor/Furnishings’ and The Dee Buchanan Studio of Dance for ‘Best Gymnastic Club’ and ‘Best Summer Camp’.
Deb King, owner of Deb’s Artisan Bakehouse, said they are all honored to win this award. They won this category last year in 2020, and placed third in 2019. King said they won because they “keep things original and fresh” and “embrace [their] customer clientele.”
This year brought another win for South Mountain Creamery (SMC) in the ‘Best Frozen Treats’ category. Jennifer Dawicki from SMC said, “Our family farm is entrenched in the community and takes pride in all of the South Mountain Creamery products.”
The Middletown Farmers’ Market manager Josh Lewis said, “The win totally belongs to the vendors, community groups, food trucks, and entertainers that participate in the market.” With everyone involved being “hyper-local” members of the community can be welcomed by a “fun and inviting atmosphere”.
Other notable award winners nearby include Warehouse Cinemas for ‘Best Family Entertainment’, The Great Frederick Fair for “Best Local Festival/Carnival’, Il Forno Pizzeria for ‘Best Trivia Location’ and ‘Best Pizza’, Summers Farm Adventure for ‘Best Pumpkin Patch’ and Frederick Community College for ‘Best College/University’.
