Retaliation or aggressive action was how many Middletown High School students said the United States should respond to the beheadings and threats made by the terrorist group ISIS.
Recently two American journalists, Steven Sotloff and James Foley, were beheaded by ISIS.
President Barack Obama and the United States need to “step up to the plate and stop hiding” because nothing is going to get fixed if we aren’t addressing the problem, said Taylor Long, MHS senior.
Rachel Walchuck, MHS sophomore, said we need to “be more aggressive and proactive” in our search for ISIS.
Many students said they would like to negotiate instead of taking aggressive action, but ISIS is unwilling to do so.
“We need to use military action because you can’t talk or negotiate with them and they aren’t going to stop so they need to be wiped out,” said Erin O’Connor, MHS freshman.
Jack Rogers, MHS freshman, said the United States needs to “hunt them down and kill them.”
Some MHS students were very blunt when saying what the United States should do.
“We need to go to war,” said MHS senior, Chris Zimmerman.”
Holly Pizzi, MHS junior, said, “We need to go kill them.”
Many students want to take aggressive action, but not to the point that it hurts the United States.
Emily Scoggins, MHS senior, said, “The United States needs to take action but not to the extent that it hurts our country. We will probably have to deploy troops because diplomatic action isn’t enough.”
