Recent house and car break-ins and robberies in Glenbrook in Middletown have made local citizens concerned for their safety. Police officers have held meetings about how to keep homes and cars safe.
These robberies occurred on Aug. 13-14. Seven robberies transpired, three on Aug. 13 and four on Aug. 14.
The majority of the robberies were car break-ins. “A residential burglary was reported nearby,” said Frederick County sheriff’s deputy Kevin White, “however, it is not believed to be related to the thefts from vehicles based on the time frame of the incident.”
The items that were stolen were money, credit cards, laptops, smart phones, iPods, and similar items.
There are three male suspects between the ages of 17 and 20, one of which has a record of causing trouble in Glenbrook, said White. That certain suspect was released from jail shortly before the thefts.
“These three suspects are believed to have committed similar thefts in Urbana, Spring Ridge, Waterside, and in the City of Frederick,” said White.
Glenbrook was most likely targeted because it is a rich environment, White said. It is not uncommon for cars to be left unlocked and garages to be left open late into the night.
There have been no invasion robberies, but there have been three residential burglaries in the last five years, he said.
“According to police, they were called to the 400 block of Glenbrook Drive around 7:30 a.m. Saturday March 26, 2011,” reported CBS Baltimore. “When they arrived, they found a 45-year-old man, later identified as Amir Abbas Doulatshahi, inside the home. He had been stabbed.”
“During the month of August, there were 460 patrol checks in Middletown; 127 of those were in Glenbrook,” said White.
Ensuring the safety of their community, the neighborhood watch staff had a meeting with the people of Glenbrook to inform them about how to keep their cars and houses safe.
“Residents should lock homes, cars and garages,” said White. “Turn exterior lights on from dusk until dawn.”
