Middletown High School will be using the new website Code.org to help increase knowledge in computer science.
The website Code.org is going to be used in FCPS including Middletown High School to increase participation in computer science with goals to include course by females and underrepresented students.
The main purpose for this new partnership is “to provide every student an opportunity with coding, so students can get a job that could become in the future,” said Lee Jeffery.
The new partnership with code.org is starting to effect learning in our school buy opening up opportunities in computer science classes. The website is based off of the hour of code, which is when you stop class and spend an hour practicing basic coding skills.
Michael Malafarina said he will use this website “for training and for the annual event” known as the hour code.
This will be used a lot in Middletown High School because this new partnership allows everyone to go code.org to practice whenever they want.
Josh Robertson MHS sophomore added we will be using this when “you have the time to practice and really learn about computer coding.”
Although Malafarina was “hopeful and optimistic” about this new partnership Samuel McCutcheon MHS senior said he “doesn’t think many will be impacted because it’s more like a hobby”
Since the main goal of code.org is to help females and underrepresented students expand knowledge in computer science FCPS decided to partner with the website.
Jeffery added that “as a system we understand that we need to provide opportunity, and expose interests because there isn’t a mechanism for coding.”
