Tuesday night I attended the monthly PTSA meeting and Ms. Langley from the counselor’s office gave a presentation about college entrance exams. She started with an explanation of the ACT test, then she explained the changes to the redesigned SAT and PSAT tests. Why does this matter now? Well it matters because at graduation last week 88% of the graduates said they were going college or other technical schools. And, over the years 80% to 90% of Middletown High School graduates HAVE gone on to colleges and other schools, so performing well on those tests is really important.
The best way to prepare for those tests starts with attending school and taking challenging classes. The second thing you can do is start studying for those tests which I think might be easier and more interesting now. Many of you are familiar with KHAN Academy, which is an online program that provides tutorials in many courses. For the first time ever, Khan Academy has free PSAT, SAT and ACT practice tutorials and practice tests. I downloaded the Khan Academy APP on my phone and listened to the tutorials and practiced some of the exam questions and found it interesting and kind of fun.
No matter what grade you are in or what courses you are taking, you will likely find the Khan Academy APP very helpful to your school work. All of you have the opportunity to improve your performance on those college entrance tests if you improve your work habits and you replace SOME of your gaming time with getting on KHAN academy or other learning APPS
Anthony D’Angelo’s quote makes a lot of sense, he said “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” With something to think about, I am Ms. Jeffrey, Have a beautiful day!
