The latest closing of the Hoyts Theater in the Frederick Towne Mall leaves Regal Westview Stadium 16 as the only choice for movie goers.
Not since the days of the Tivoli Theater in downtown Frederick has the movie-going public had only one movie house in town. The Holiday Cinemas arrived in the late 1960’s.
Later, movie theaters opened at two shopping centers on route 40, the Golden Mile. Now, with those two theaters closed and the Holiday Cinemas showing movies that have been out for a while, Frederick is left with only the Westview Theater for the people to view latest releases at.
Most people at Middletown High School aren’t bothered by the ending of the Hoyts Theater. They said Westview was cleaner, more spacious, and had better seats than Hoyts.
However, Hoyts had a couple advantages mentioned by senior Justin Beard. Frederick Towne Mall is closer to Middletown and the theater was less expensive.“I’m kind of upset because a guy is supposed to buy a girl’s ticket but Westview is a lot more expensive,” said Beard.
“I had a lot of good memories from that theater,” said senior Tony Allevato.
