The sixth week of college football has been completed with many recurring points and new projections for the Heisman trophy.
After watching all of the games, I believe that Western Michigan is the second best team in the state.
The Broncos have opened their season up to a 6-0 start, becoming one of 11 teams yet to lose a game after the team’s 45-30 victory over Northern Illinois.
Western Michigan cracked the AP Top 25 poll last week for the first time in school history.
The Broncos have proven to be the second best team in Michigan, only trailing No. 4 Michigan.
If the Broncos can finish the season without a blemish on their record, the team could make a new year’s six bowl game.
This week, we saw the ‘miracle men’ of college football take their first loss when No. 9 Tennessee couldn’t finish off No. 8 Texas A&M, resulting in a 45-38 double-overtime loss.
The Volunteers made away with an undefeated season by luck. The team shouldn’t be undefeated and are still one of the worst teams in the SEC.
After Tennessee outscored the Aggies 21-7 in the fourth quarter after leading by as much as 21, the nation thought that the Vols were going to sneak away with another slim victory. However, Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight thought differently after his one yard touchdown run in the second overtime
The Aggies will likely jump up a spot or two in the AP Top 25 polls and Tennessee will likely drop a few places down.
A team that deserves to move up a spot is No. 4 Michigan after the 78-0 beating they put on the Rutgers.
The Wolverines had 600 yards of offense compared to the Rutgers 39.
I would like to see Michigan leap No. 3 Clemson, who has barely snuck past multiple games this season.
Another team worthy of jumping the third-ranked Tigers is No. 5 Washington, who dismantled the struggling Oregon Ducks, 70-21.
Now onto some negatives for the week.
The biggest upset was NC State taking down Clemson.
One of my favorite rising college teams, No. 17 North Carolina, experienced an embarrassing loss to No. 25 Virginia Tech, 34-3.
The Tar Heels have one of the nation’s best quarterbacks, Mitch Trubisky, and a close to perfect passing game with wide receiver Ryan Switzer.
North Carolina was held to a field goal which should not have been the case. I suspect this won’t be for the rest of the season due to their excellent coaching staff.
Another team whose playoff hopes have fallen short is the No. 15 Stanford Cardinals, who lost to Washington State over the weekend, 42-16.
The Cardinals have not lived up to expectations this season after almost making the playoff last season and ending the year ranked No. 5 in the country.
As of right now, the Cardinals are 4-2, sitting at fourth in the Pac-12 north division with a 2-2 conference record.
Finally, the most eventful game: No. 23 Florida State defeating No. 10 Miami on a blocked extra point, 20-19.
To start, I don’t think Miami needed the #10 ranking knowing that they had yet to play any ACC rivals and for that matter, a legit FBS opponent.
I also think Florida State is overrated. They had their golden year in 2013 when they won the National Championship over Auburn and still believe they can ride that wave this season, but that’s not going to happen.
For next week, the games I would highly recommend watching are No. 9 Tennessee face-off against No.1 Alabama and No. 2 Ohio State against No. 8 Wisconsin.
