On November 5th, 2017, Texas native Devin Patrick Kelley entered the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas and rapidly shot into the congregation. Soon after fleeing the church, Kelley was shot by a local before he took his own life. Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, has deemed the event the largest mass shooting in Texas history.

Clara Tam is a senior at Middletown High School and is in her second semester of journalism. Outside of journalism, Clara likes to serve within the community through honor societies and nonprofits; moreover, Clara enjoys traveling and hiking. Jade Ruggieri is a junior at Middletown High School and is in her fifth semester in journalism. Her favorite class besides journalism is English. She binges Netflix all night and some of her favorite shows are “Grey’s Anatomy” and "How I Met Your Mother." In her free time, Jade is a Varsity Cheerleader during basketball season. Planning on pursuing broadcast journalism, Jade hopes to attend her dream college at New York University.
