MHS Sophomore Erika Pritchard verbally commits to play volleyball at UMD.
For those who wish to attend college following their High School career committing to a college isn’t an easy decision. Theres more to choosing a college than a High School Freshman might think, as a High School Freshman chances are all you really think of is to achieve good grades, get by and to enjoy High School, college isn’t really a priority…yet. Senior year arrives before you know it bringing stress to choose the path for the following four years.
Unlike the average High School sophomore the opportunity to attend and to commit to a college level university is present. Erika Pritchard verbally commit to play volleyball for the Maryland Terps, alongside Sam Higgenbothem a former Middletown graduate and volleyball player.
As a High School sophomore knowing where you’ll attend college is a relief, and will allow you to fully enjoy the rest of your high school career, as Erika Pritchard exclaimed “I was really relieved and it took the stress off my shoulders because more than 80 colleges reached out to me in one way or another”.
Pritchard hasn’t decided on her major but hopes to know soon. With her commitment to play at UMD choosing her major will hopefully be easier.
Pritchard has many years of volleyball experience under her belt, she started at the Middletown Summer Volleyball camp in 2011, her first year of Middle School, in 2012 she started playing for the Frederick Volleyball Club and in 2013 she switched to Metro Volleyball Club in D.C and has been playing ever since. With a successful volleyball career it’s no wonder offers came to her left and right.
When asked if the University of Maryland was one of her choices Pritchard stated that when she “visited UMD in the spring of 2014, UMD being one of my choices. Later on in the recruiting process it started to become my top choice for many reasons, the volleyball program, coaching state, to represent Maryland, because it is close to home and because of the academics”.
Having multiple reasons to choose UMD made it easier for her to narrow down the school of her dreams.
Congratulationsto Erika Pritchard on her verbal commitment to play volleyball and study at the University of Maryland, her dedication paid off.
