A book that I have recently just finished by Ransom Riggs surprised me greatly.
First off, I do not fare well with scary topics so I did not think that I would enjoy the book as much as I do.
However I cannot imagine not reading this book since the characters are so captivating and unique.
Jacob Portman lives in a world that consists of him running his family’s chain drugstore.
Jacob never seems completely excited with his life, never really fitting in and having only one friend.
The only highlight in his dull life are the stories that his grandfather would tell him about these children who were miraculous.
One day his grandfather was murdered by a creature that only Jacob can see.
He departs on an adventure to visit Wales where his grandfather spent a lot of his time as a child.
There he stumbles upon the home for the “peculiar” and there enters back into the 1940’s time loop.
The Peculiars stay there managed by Miss Peregrine who take Jacob under her care.
Of course there is the common “ordinary character saving the world” aspect but that is what makes this book that much better.
This book is distinctive from others since it incorporates photography giving the book a lively appearance.
The characters in books are way more entertaining such as Jacob Portman and his new found friends.
