Christmas: the annual celebration of the birth of Christ, otherwise known as the best time of the year. The days leading up to Christmas build up to the excitement of Christmas Day.
Many people have different traditions that they continue to do year after year; one of mine is watching Elf after enjoying a Thanksgiving feast with my family, it’s the kickoff to the Christmas season.
For the past nineteen years the annual programming of “ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas” has been catching the attention of families all over the world. Each night there are 2, sometimes 3, different Christmas or holiday movies that start running in the evening.
I find it difficult to choose just one all-time favorite Christmas movie. However, my top 5 favorite Christmas movies are “Elf,” “Home Alone 1 and 2,” “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,” and “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” All 5 of those movies get played at least 3 times during “ABC Family’s 25 days of Christmas.”
Another tradition is to put up Christmas lights. My family’s Christmas lights are always bright and colorful. I love to drive around a few days before Christmas Eve and look at other people’s lights. They make the season festive and fun.
Out of all my family’s Christmas traditions, my personal favorite would be watching “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” while decorating sugar cookies.
Our sugar cookie dough is homemade and takes about 3 hours to be ready before we start cutting out shapes, such as candy canes, gingerbread men, snow globes, Christmas trees and more. Once they’re cooled we turn on the movie and begin icing them, adding sprinkles or other decorative designs. The cookies are not in the cookie jar long, they are eaten in a matter of days.
