The Middletown High School Key Club joined members of the community together by hosting a dance for senior citizens on Nov. 18.

MHS junior Elaine Brandenburg, the organizer of the Hawaiian Homecoming dance, shares her experience working with Tranquility Assisted Living.

Brandenburg said, “The residents were incredibly thankful for the MHS Key Club students who spent their day with them and those at Tranquility continue to talk about the fun experience they had.”

The MHS Key Club hosted this dance as one of their main volunteer events this year in order to provide the senior residents with a fun afternoon where they are able to let loose.

Abbe Pannucci, MHS senior, who is president of the MHS Key Club said, “We try to do two or three big volunteer events each year which are decided a few months before the events are held.”

Many club members volunteered to assist in making invitations for the residents and organized the refreshments. A few other club members helped by painting residents’ nails and decorating the room for the Hawaiian theme.

Pannucci added, “Hopefully we brightened their day and gave them something to look forward to.”

Brandenburg added, “A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Athey – the Key Club advisor who regularly dedicates her free time to encouraging students to serve those in the community.”
