The Middletown High School academic team competed in the 55th season of “It’s Academic” on April 21st, falling in the Semi-final round to Towson and Centennial.
“It’s Academic” is a show filmed in Baltimore by WJZ TV. It’s a Jeopardy type show with five rounds, four people per team and three teams competing with the winning school advancing on in the show.
“Usually the Academic team is small but these last few years we’ve really seen an increase in participation which proves great for the future”, said MHS Senior and team member, Evan Ruderman.
Ruderman tells how easy it is to join the team and how the benefits of it are unmatchable.
“It’s really easy, anyone interested can join by just showing up to a practice which are held on Mondays and Wednesdays. The relationships you get out of it are extraordinary”.
Though most of the team was seniors, the goals of the Knights team next year on the show are still the same.
“The goal next year is to improve on the year before, that’s all you can ask for in the end. Personally, I tried to get the team involved in extra studying and more practices which I hope will continue after I leave”, Ruderman said, “All I can tell to kids who are interested is give it a shot, you might not get to buzz in right away but the community and team are great and it’s a great learning experience.
