The tears were flowing; the emotions evident, they knew it would be their last home game. Middletown High School seniors Emily Rabat, Olivia Fritz, Samantha Higgenbothem and Lauren Wolfe were honored Tuesday night in a 3-0 win for the Knights against Winters Mill.
The Knights got off to a great start in the first set, taking a 9-2 lead, but the Falcons didn’t go down easy. They got back within four, but the Knights dominated the first set from there on out.
In the second set Middletown struggled to separate themselves from the persistent Falcons as it was close throughout, but the Knights were able to pull away yet again for the win.
The Knights came out strong in the third set, they dominated the serve and Rabat showered the Falcons with a bevy of kills, adding to her total of 14 on the night. Higgenbothem came up big on her senior night as well; she recorded 11 digs and five aces.
With this win the Knights improve to 10-3 on the season and have put themselves in great position for the playoffs.
“It was a solid team win,” MHS coach Aubrey Pfau said in interview with the Frederick News-Post. “Especially on Senior Night; the seniors got to shine and have their moments on the court, which was great. Coming off with a win is always a better situation when it’s Senior Night.”
