The Middletown High School boys soccer team will be heading to Walkersville on Oct. 15 to take on the rival Lions. The Knights are looking for their sixth win of the season and their third in a row.
Last time out the Knights honored seniors Lucas Tatem, Caleb Abel, Justin Hohl and an injured Connor Smith with a 4-1 win against Linganore. MHS seniors Tatem and Hohl contributed goals in the victory.
The Knights went down by one early in the second half on a goal off a Linganore corner, but only four minutes later MHS sophomore Clay Smith scored the equalizer on a rebound from a Hohl shot.
Smith’s goal seemed to open up the floodgates for the Knights, and early in the second half Hohl scored the go-ahead goal. Just minutes later Smith passed to Tatem, who scored with a beautiful chip over the outstretched keeper’s hands.
After going up 3-1, the Knights would continue to apply pressure to the beat-up Lancers’ defense. They would eventually score their fourth and final goal when MHS junior Devon Tan put one in the back of the net off an assist from Smith, Smith’s second of the night.
Middletown sophomore keeper Eric Reichelt continued his impressive season, only giving up one goal on Oct. 12.
On Oct. 15 the Knights will take on Walkersville, a team that has had a disappointing season at best. The Lions have gone 2-8 thus far, and tied a Thomas Johnson squad that Middletown beat 5-0 just two games ago. The Lions’ last game was a 2-0 loss to Linganore on Oct. 14.
This looks to be an easy game for the Knights if they take advantage of their speed, and stay calm in the Lions’ den, but its difficult to know what might happen between these two schools.
JV: The Knights are coming off a 1-0 victory over the Lancers on Oct. 12; Danny Bertoni scored the lone goal with the assist coming from Evan Joseph. Evan Falcinelli kept a clean sheet in goal.
The 0-9 Lions will be looking to gain their first win on Oct. 15 against the Knights. They lost their last game 7-0 to Linganore on Oct. 14.
