The Middletown High School Knights JV Football team will look to continue their success as the take on the Linganore High School Lancers tonight at 7 P.M.
The Knights (2-0) are coming off a win against Brunswick in which they knocked off the Railroaders 48-0. The Railroaders were out of the game by the second quarter, down 35-0 midway through the second quarter, allowing the Knihts to put their reserves in and allowing all of the players to see game experience.
MHS sophomores Evan Langley, James Early, and Marquis Lauer have provided a venerable 1-2-3 combo out of the backfield helping them wear down opponents and cause mental mistakes.
Lauer is the starting halfback for the Knights and provides the ability to break through holes in the opponent’s defensive line and then use his speed to escape defenders in the secondary.
Early and Langley have been a 1-2 punch of their own at fullback using their size and power to make holes for Lauer and for themselves while running the ball.
This has opened up the air for MHS sophomore Will Davis allowing him to throw the ball when he needs to for big gains.
The Knights Freshmen Football team will take on the Lancers Freshmen Football team at 5 P.M. in what is an unusual situation for both teams.
The Knights (1-1) were supposed to play Brunswick last night but the Railroaders determined that they would not have enough kids to field a freshmen team.
So the Knights Athletic Department was forced to look for another opponent for Week 2 and found one in the form of whom else but Linganore.
The situation is unusual to any level of football but especially high school football because of how the schedules usually do not change from year to year.
The Knights took down Linganore last week using an offense that saw success in the Mountain Valley Youth Football League (M.V.Y.F.L), with this year’s freshmen losing in the Super Bowl for the M.V.Y.F.L last year as 8th graders.
The Knights have played two close games so far this season, losing to Urbana by one in Week 1, 6-7, and just getting the better of the Lancers last week, 12-7.
The Knights have been led by Kyle Broadbent at running back and Adam Bain at quarterback although the real power spot has been on defense.
