The Middletown High School boys basketball team narrowly escaped with a narrow 50-49 victory over FSK on Jan. 6.
After trailing by as many as nine in the second half the Knights (5-2) came out firing from downtown.
Sophomore Matt Considine hits two big threes in the fourth to get the Knights back into it, and the Knights stellar perimeter defense took it from there on out.
The Eagles were only able to score nine points in the fourth quarter. Thanks in large part to the great perimeter defense by senior guards Tim Schumacher, and Brad Rinehart.
The Knights scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, spurred mostly by sophomores Clay Smith and Considine. The benefits of the small lineup really helped in the fourth quarter. Fast paced offense and shooters to spread the floor really paid dividends for the Knights.
On defense, playing small didn’t hurt the Knights at all on defense. Fast perimeter defenders, and great effort on the inside by senior Ben Panther, leading to four blocks.
Considine finished the game with 13 points, Rinehart had 12, and junior Cedric Ayenu grabbed eight boards.
The Knights are riding a three game winning streak heading into their game against Linganore on Jan. 8.
