“Not a lot people know about the (Middletown) Sports Club,” says Sports Club representative John Harman.

They certainly will after their newest endeavor, the Sports Club will hold a raffle on June 13 for a chance to win a “dream house”. This is to raise money to pay off the debt of the turf field, and hopefully make additional upgrades to the stadium.

“If we sell all 15,000 tickets,” says Harman, “we will use the additional money to build the bathrooms that we need, and make the stands handicap accessible.”

The house is located in Cone Branch Estates in Middletown, and is within walking distance of the school. The Home features 3.5 bathrooms and four bedrooms, along with a two car garage, and many additional amenities.

“We bought ten tickets,” says Middletown resident, Richard Tatem, “It was great to give back to such a great school and community.”

“We’re at about 4,500 tickets right now, but are starting to get the ball rolling.” says Harman, “We expect to reach at least the minimum goal of 6,000 tickets.”

The sports club will probably not have enough ticket purchases in order to enact a complete overhaul of the stadium.

“If we sell 6,000 the sports club will make about 100,000 dollars,” says Harman “which is better than nothing, and we would be able to pay off about 1/3 of the debt from building the turf field.”

Tatem though is looking forward to the new additions in the stadium rather than paying off old debt.

“These updates are needed, and certainly long overdue,” says Tatem, “the bathrooms and the stands all need to be up to code and handicap accessible.”

Handicap accessibility is certainly a problem that everyone agrees needs to be addressed.

“Handicap accessibility is certainly one of our top priorities,” Harman says.

This house was owned by Mark Gaver who donated it to the Sports Club, because he wanted to give back to the community.

Sports are certainly a sense of pride in this tight-knit Middletown community, and the accolades have continuously piled up over recent years.

 Most notably, the MHS football team has made three straight class 2a state final appearances, and has won two straight titles; they are led by head coach Kevin Lynott. The girls’ soccer team completed a “three-peat” this season under the leadership of head coach Heather Kline.

“The stadium should be a source of pride for the community,” says Tatem “These are great athletes and they deserve a great stadium.”
