On Oct. 1, Middletown’s promising Golf team played in the 1A-4A County Championships at Clustered Spires Golf Course.
Seniors Brett Bidle and Charlie Hall (alternate), juniors Alex Hoffman, Chase Main and Garrett Nicely, and sophomore Jimmie Blumenauer all represented Middletown.
As a team, Middletown tied for first with Urbana. Both teams did not go into playoff holes, but they are not sure why.
Hoffman and Nicely were the two leaders for MHS. They both shot a 74, along with Jamey Hewett from Urbana High School and Andrew Medivich from Walkersville High School. The top players went into three playoff holes.
The par was five; Hoffman and Medivich shot birdies one the first hole; Nicely and Hewett shot par, eliminating both.
Playoff hole number two: both bogeyed. On the third and final playoff hole, Hoffman shot an eagle and Medivich bogeyed.
Hoffman had it in the bag. He is the first Middletown golfer to win a county title.
MVAL’s are coming up and then the team is on to states. After the first day of states, they’ll narrow it down from eight teams to four teams according to the separate teams scores.
The Knights, with a promising team, are expected to do well.
