As the clock struck zero on Friday at the Middletown High School stadium, a frenzy of black and orange fans could be seen along the fence, preparing to storm the field, to celebrate with the varsity football team their first win over Governor Thomas Johnson in 5 years.
Ben Lewis, a new and impacting addition to MHS football, helped lead the team to its victory.
The junior transferred back to the Middletown school district from St. Johns Catholic Prep this past January. Although attending Middletown throughout elementary and middle school, Lewis transferred as an incoming freshman to St. Johns hoping to concentrate on athletics as well as academics.
Upon returning to MHS last January, Lewis walked on to the varsity basketball team as a sophomore and joined the Knight’s football team this fall.
The transition from Middletown football, to SJCP, back to MHS was not very tough on Lewis.
“Everyone was really nice and welcoming on the team. I’ve played with them before so it was like I had never left,” said Lewis.
Last Friday, Lewis had three tackles and scored the final 51-yard touch down with only 3 minutes to spare, winning the game 18-13.
“It feels good to be back, it’s a team effort here at Middletown, every single player wants to win,” said Lewis.
The next game is October 8 at 7 PM at South Hagerstown, so come out and support the Knights!
