This Friday, the Middletown Knights play in the annual Homecoming football game against the North Hagerstown Hubs.
Coming off a disappointing loss to a strong Linganore Lancers team, turnovers and big plays proved to be the Knights’ Achilles heel. Middletown started very strong, forcing a fumble on Linganore’s first offensive set. The strong start didn’t hold up, as Linganore connected on a 75 yard touchdown pass. Tony Boyer soon fumbled, and a blowout ensued.
The Knights face a North Hagerstown team coming off a huge momentum boosting win against Winters Mall. Last week against Winters Mill, linebacker John Courtney accumulated 14 total tackles (10 solo), one tackle for a loss (TFL), one sack, a forced fumble, and he forced a botched punt leading to the game – tying TD, all while gaining Green Turtle Player of the Week honors. He is the number one defensive threat against the Knights, especially if they continue to have trouble holding on to the football.
Michels and Glushakow have electric arms passing the football, but they have had trouble with interceptions this season. They can make a big play with one throw, but they are equally liable at this point to give that huge play to the defense. If they can limit mistakes and get the ball to their speedy playmakers, the Knights offense should have little trouble against the typically porous North Hagerstown defense.
The Middletown defense is strong, and should continue to remain strong. If you take away the huge gains that Linganore accumulated, that game would have been much closer.
The Knights need to limit turnovers and big plays, and the Homecoming game should be a less difficult win for the Knights.
Tune in after the game to get the scores here first.
