On a beautiful night for football, a charged crowd packed Walkersville High School for senior night to see the Knights shut out the hometown Lions 28 – 0.
The night began with a touching moment of silence for the late Kaity Wilson.
Walkersville won the toss, choosing to defer to the second half.
Rob Michels began Middletown’s first drive with a fumble, which he recovered. The Knights went on to a three – and – out and a punt.
Walkersville steadily drove down the field deep into Knights territory before throwing an interception to Adam Dulberger.
Middletown went three – and – out and punted.
The Lions sputtered, going three – and – out.
Middletown’s offense also went nowhere, punting back to the Lions.
The Knights defense held the Lions, forcing another punt.
The Middletown offense appeared to get it going, and then was stopped on a fourth down attempt.
The Lions immediately went three – and – out.
Middletown’s offense went three – and – out, punting to Walkersville.
Walkersville, trying to get points before halftime, threw an INT to Dulberger with 28 seconds left to play.
Michels threw a backwards pass to Sam Glushakow, who then threw a deep touchdown pass to Patrick Ryan with five seconds to go in the first half. Nathaniel Iott kicked through the extra point to bring the score to 7 – 0 Middletown.
Walkersville attempted a deep pass, incomplete, to end the first half with the score 7 – 0 Knights.
The Lions received the ball in the second half, quickly giving the ball back to the Knights.
Middletown drove into Walkersville territory, ending with Michels throwing a TD pass to Justin Boyer. Iott’s kick made it 14 – 0 Knights.
The Knights soon forced a Lions fumble, with Brandon Johnson recovering for Middletown.
The Knights quickly drove down the field, with Michels throwing for a touchdown to Nick Pirrone. Iott kicked through the extra point for a 21 – 0 lead.
Walkersville received the kick, returning it all the way down to the Middletown three yard line. Aided by a third down intentional grounding call on the Lions, the Knights pushed Walkersville to a fourth and goal attempt from the 27 yard line. They forced an incompletion, taking over on downs.
Two plays into the ensuing drive, Tony Boyer caught a long touchdown pass up the middle of the field from Michels. Iott’s kick made it 28 – 0 Knights.
Middletown’s defense forced a Lions punt.
Middletown ended the third quarter at 28 – 0 Knights.
Starting the fourth quarter, the Knights were forced to punt.
Walkersville went three – and – out, and punted back to Middletown.
The Knights drove all the way to the Walkersville four yard line, and turned it over on downs.
Middletown held the Lions, and forced a punt with 1:25 to play in the game.
One quick running play, then a knee by Michels ended the game at 28 – 0 Knights.
At the end of the game, an enthusiastic Knights crowd tried to enter the field, but was stopped by the police. The Knights ended the regular season by easily beating the Walkersville Lions on their home field during senior night, the score 28 – 0 Middletown.
