The Middletown Knights Varsity Girls Basketball team lost to the Oakdale Bears 36-34 in a game in which the Knights struggled to produce any offensive consistency. The Knights picked it up, however, with Middletown senior Caitlin McLister leading the charge to give the Knights a 15-8 lead after one quarter. From there, it was pretty much downhill for the Knights as they were outscored 17-11 in the second quarter, putting them down 22-33 at the half. The last three-pointer for the Bears came on a buzzer beater three-pointer by Taylor McGehee, who had 12 points in the game all of which came off three-pointers. In the second half, the Knights seemed to be extremely deflated as the offense could not get into the paint and had to settle for outside shots early in the shot clock. On top of that, because of Oakdale’s tough defense, the Knights main three point shooters, McLister and Kelly were not open, forcing the centers and power forwards to take shots out of their range. Oakdale got into foul trouble late, with the Knights in the bonus from midway in the fourth quarter on. Unfortunately for Middletown, this didn’t matter as they only took two foul shots in the last four minutes. The Knights were led by sophomore Carly Tolino and senior Caitlin McLister who both had 12 points. This game was a let-down for a team who had showed real progress in the past games by beating Frederick, Governor Thomas Johnson, and Urbana. The Knights will try to pick up the pieces in a short amount of time as they will take on the Hubs of North Hagerstown High School at seven tonight. This will be the Knights Senior Night and they will attempt to honor seniors Tisa Mullins, Caitlin McLister, Connar Kelly, and Brittney George by winning their last home game. The Knights JV team beat the Oakdale Bears JV team by a score of 36-34 in a game that came down to the very final seconds. The Knights were up in the third quarter by a score of 33-24 but the Bears came storming back in the fourth quarter outscoring the Knights 10-3. The Knights had a chance to ice the game in the fourth quarter with foul shots, but they were abysmal from the line in the fourth quarter shooting just one out of six from the charity stripe. The Bears attempted late heroics, including a last second buzzer beater by Emily Scott who led the Bears with 15 points, but could not complete the comeback. The Knights were led by freshman Paige Tarleton who scored nine points with all of them coming from three point range.
