After a tough previous year, this year’s team will try to come back strong. Coach Andy Baker has a lot of seniors returning to play. Senior Josh Vigder is the ace pitcher on the team and has already decided to play baseball next year at Frederick Community College.
Along with Vigder, the teams has seniors David Meikrantz and Andrew Pierce in the top of the rotation. Juniors Colin Maye and Cody Strawsburg will be in the bottom of the rotation but show promising potential.
The hitting for the Knights will be improved with junior third baseman Koby Cavanaugh leading the way. Cavanaugh was an All-Area player last year in Frederick County and appears bigger and stronger this season.
Along with Cavanaugh, the team has senior Matt McConaughey, a versatile player who can play a lot of different positions. McConaughey is the most experienced player on the team and will be looked at to be the team leader.
In the infield at second, senior Kyle Reese will be a big players along with shortstop junior Justin Boyer. They look like a strong duo up the middle.
Catching for the Knights will be junior Kyle Watkins, who has a very strong arm.
This team is very capable of making a complete change from last year. Look for them to try and repeat what the 2007 team did by going to the state championship.
