Middletown fans travelled in full force to Century High School in the wind and snow to watch the hometown Century Knights roll over the Middletown Knights 47 – 0.
Middletown won the toss, choosing to defer.
Century started the game going three-and-out.
Middletown took the ball and promptly gave it back to Century, by way of a Rob Michels interception.
Century and Middletown both went three-and-out in back-to-back drives.
Century took the ball and gave it to Cory Anderlik, who ran for a 33 yard touchdown. The extra point try was good, bringing the score to 7 – 0 Century.
Middletown went three-and-out on the ensuing drive.
Century drove a short way before Josh Bordner threw a touchdown pass to Adam Patterson. The extra point was good for a 14 – 0 Century lead.
On the next drive, Michels threw an INT to Anderlik.
Century and Middletown went back and forth, going three-and-out on three successive drives.
When Middletown got the ball back, Michels threw an INT to a defensive lineman deep in Middletown territory.
Anderlik ran for a short TD run, and the extra point was no good. That brought the score to 20 – 0.
Middletown got the ball back and quickly fumbled back to Century.
Bordner ran for a short TD, and the extra point made it 27 – 0 Century.
Middletown, on the ensuing drive, fumbled back to Century.
Anderlik ran for another short TD. Going for two, to get a running clock in the second half, Bordner overthrew a wide open receiver, leaving the score at 33 – 0 Century.
Middletown was held to a fourth down attempt, which was no good, and turned the ball over on downs.
Century took a knee to end the second quarter.
Middletown received the ball to start the third quarter.
The Century defense forced a punt on the first drive of the second half.
Anderlik immediately ran for a 70 yard touchdown, and the extra point made it 40 – 0.
On the next drive, Michels threw an INT to Patterson, who returned it for a TD. The extra point made it 47 – 0 Century.
Middletown and Century went three-and-out on back-to-back drives, before Century stopped Middletown on a fourth down attempt.
Middletown’s defense held Century to a fourth and two with around 50 seconds to play, and stopped them short.
One play later, the game was over, with Century being crowned 2A West champions.
Turnover problems plagued Middletown, with Century being opportunistic and scoring after almost every Middletown mistake. This marks a disappointing end to an otherwise productive season for Middletown.
