The 2007-2008 yearbook, Essence, won the prestigious award, The Crown. The Crown Award is the highest recognition given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association to student print for overall excellence. This year, the yearbook was chosen as one of the 26 best online or print media.
“You have to put so much time and dedication into the yearbook, it’s really wonderful to get an award for it,” said senior Shae Beckner, who was part of the yearbook staff last year.
The staff is planning on going to Columbia University for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, where it will be announced whether it won a silver or gold award.
None the less, this is still a very honoring award to win.
“Obviously, I am extremely proud of everyone who was associated with last year’s book,” said John Mattingly, last years yearbook adviser.
