After watching news coverage of three people dying and over 140 others receiving various injuries from explosions at the annual Boston Marathon, Middletown High School students and staff start sharing their opinion as to how they would’ve reacted if they were the ones either helping with the event or running the race.
The Boston Marathon is hosted on Patriot’s Day every year and attracts thousands of people. It was inspired by the marathon competition in the Summer Olympics, according to the Boston website.
They have never had incidents like this before.
“I’d be upset but I would try to run and help the injured,” Kyle Charron, an MHS senior. “I will be very happy once they catch whoever did this.”
Kayla Armstrong, an MHS sophomore, said, “My first reaction would be to search for my family and hope that they were still alive.”
The staff of MHS was equally troubled by the events held in Boston that day. Christa Angelone, MHS world language teacher, said, ” If I was there, I would have been shocked from the impact and wouldn’t know what to do right then because it was so sudden.”
Family and friends of MHS students were present that day too.
MHS sophomore Jake Kinnier said he had an aunt sent out to report the story. “Having a family member out there at the time is a scary thing,” he said.
FBI and police are still looking for who could have been responsible for the tragedy, and many people are still being treated at local hospitals. A few of the victims are still in either serious or critical condition.
Investigators are starting to wonder if this could have been a terrorist attack intended to be much more serious than it actually was.
Jenny Millard, MHS junior, said that if she was investigating the crime, she would look at all the footage from the event and try to pinpoint areas of suspicion.
