Middletown High School has a new honors organization this year, the National Music Honors SocietY, also known as Tri-M.
Tri-M is for students who have excelled in music, service, leadership, and academics. On March 4, the first members of the MHS Tri-M honors society were inducted. The ceremony was held in the MHS auditorium, and was led by advisors Jessica Parsley, and Matthew Shearer.
The ceremony began with the inductees processing in to music from MHS senior Krista Bussard. Tri-M student president Bryan Vanek gave a speech expressing how proud he was to be surrounded by such talented fellow musicians and welcoming everyone to the induction.
Assistant principal Jenny Bartkus then spoke to everyone about how hard all the students have worked and how music has enriched their lives. She referenced three students who were recommended to her by Parsley and Shearer, Seniors Beth Aldrich, Meghan Hughes, and Jody Brumage.
The ceremony also included guest speaker Dr. Noel Lester who honored everyone with a song he performed on the piano. The night concluded with the inductees receiving a Tri-M pin and membership card, and each inductee signed a book of membership.
