Middletown High School will hold the annual Winter Formal dance on Feb. 28 from 8-11 pm in the high school gymnasium, despite rumors that the dance had been cancelled.
“I did not hear that there was a possibility of no winter formal, so I am not sure where that rumor is coming from,” said Donna Clabaugh, MHS assistant principal. “I believe the dance was scheduled for Feb. 21 and then changed to Feb. 28, but the dance was never cancelled.”
Once students were told that there was in fact going to be a Winter Formal, many were relieved.
“I’m glad that Winter Formal wasn’t canceled because I like hanging out with my friends and dancing to the music.” said Shannon Buckley, MHS sophomore.
Although there still is going to be a Winter Formal, there are also going to be some changes in the way the dance will be run.
“Instead of having sign-in tables that display numbers 0-300 like in the previous years, we will have a few adults with the list of everyone to make things go smoothly. Another change is that the decorations will be the main visual asset of the dance,” said Cloe Ayenu, a MHS junior involved with the planning of the dance.
“A lot of people have said that the past formals have been ’boring’ or ‘not as exciting as I hoped;’ this year I hope to change their opinions on that and provide a ‘knight’ of fun,” said Ayenu.
Tickets will be available for purchase the week of Feb. 23.
