Each year as October brings in the cool air it also brings Homecoming at Middletown High School, and the week leading up to it; Spirit Week.
Every day has a new theme. It lifts the spirit for the pep rally and Friday’s football game against Brunswick High School, and the homecoming dance.
The themes this year include; Tie Dye Monday, Go Green Tuesday (be eco-friendly and wear green), Class color Wednesday, Sweats and Slippers Thursday, and Show Your Spirit Friday.
Melissa Bolt, Middletown High School’s varsity cheerleading coach, said spirit week is important because, “it helps students have pride in our school”.
“It shows we’re proud of our community, its also just something fun to add to the fall,” said Bolt.
Students share mixed feelings about Spirit Week at MHS.
“Spirit Week isn’t as exciting as the past years, people don’t take it seriously anymore,” said MHS senior Justin Boyer.
Bolt says that school spirit will also be spread through the crowd response cheers at the football game, and t-shirt throws.
MHS sophomore Casey Zanowicz thinks that Spirit Week is, “a good way to bring everyone in our school together and get them involved with the Knights, whether they go to athletic events or not.”
The Homecoming football game will be held on October 23rd and the dance on the 24th. So show your spirit this week!
