Experiencing the nerves that accompany a real-life interview is a rarity for most Middletown High School seniors. On Feb. 12, those who took their English course first semester had the opportunity to put their interview skills to the test.
Seniors wrote resumes in their English classes prior to the interviews, and came dressed appropriately, prepared for anything. They met with prominent members of the community and discussed work, skills, activities, and future goals.
The media center was filled with interviewers, and a line of anxious students filed outside awaiting their turn.
“It seemed that everyone got a bit nervous,” said senior Beth Aldrich. “Once you got in there and talked to your interviewer it was really relaxed. All the interviewers were really nice.”
Following the interview, students were given an assessment sheet from the interviewer which included an evaluation of their skills and ideas for improvement.
Despite its stress and unpredictability, senior interviews provided a chance for students to get a feel for future, similar experiences.
