John Mattingly, Middletown High School sign language and computer graphics teacher, has been rumored to have started a new computer graphics website. The rumors are true.
Mattingly has been creating a website to show the progression of his students throughout the computer graphics course. Mattingly said the reason behind creating the website was to “give students an opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities to each other, and [to] people outside of the classroom.”
The class learns to design different things on the computer. Lessons range from a logo for a business to a computer-generated poster. Although the website was originally created by Mattingly, the graphic designs and projects are created by the students.
The computer graphics class does some “cool” activities according to senior Cody Nickens.
“We make sports logos, business cards, and social impact posters,” he said.
It also creates CD covers, distorted pictures, animations and COB posters. COB posters are posters of an actor, movie or band.
“It is pretty much a poster you might have hanging in up in your room,” said junior Kaylyn Toledo.
The students create their projects using the computer program Photoshop and the tools on Photoshop. Being in the computer graphics class “helps us get a feel of what graphic designers do,” said Toledo.
The computer graphics classes have three levels. All three classes’ projects are included in the website.
It does not matter if he is a first timer or a veteran; everyone has an equal chance of getting their work on the website.
“[Our] Computer Graphics instructor selects the best projects out of the class, and puts them on the website,” said Toledo.
The website is viewable by anyone. One can get to the website by using the visiting mhscg.weebly.com.
Mattingly said he hopes, “that people outside the program will see just how incredible these kids are and that computer graphics is a great course. It allows you to be creative and is a lot of fun.”
Any students interested in computer graphics should consider signing up for the computer graphics class. One day, their work may end up on the website.
