The SAT’s are crucial for any teenager wanting to get accepted into college. From reading to math, students must hit the books in order to do their best in order to receive an accepting score.

Middletown High School SAT scores improved by 32 points in the 2010 results.

Frederick County scored an average of 519 for the critical reading, 532 for math, and 508 for the writing portions of the SAT’s. The combined average was 1559.

Middletown beat these scores with an average of 542 for critical reading, 551 for math, and 524 for writing. The average combined score was 1617.

74 percent of MHS seniors, about 250, took the SAT’s. Middletown also held the highest number of seniors taking the SAT as well.

“The SAT’s were really hard; but I was confident in my scores because I had such great teachers who taught me,” said MHS junior Maddie Nissel.

The next SAT’s will be given on Nov. 6, and Dec. 4.

MHS will be hosting SAT prep classes on Oct. 30 and Nov. 20 for SAT tests for December and in the spring. The class is for four hours; two hours for math and two hours for English.

Math teacher Cynthia Anderson will be reviewing geometry and algebra and English teacher Rebecca Larson will be covering language arts.

“I focus on an overview of the test and teaching the students quick tricks about what to expect,” said Anderson, “I give them materials that they can work on at home after the session is over. They are welcome to come back and review these with me after school.”

The cost of the SAT is $47 and an additional $24 is added on for any late registrations.

“$47 for the SAT is fair because it takes a lot of work into creating the test and distributing it around the U.S.” said Nissel.
