According to a recent press release, popular country music singer and television celebrity Bill Ray Cyrus will be kicking off this year’s entertainment line up at The Great Frederick Fair.
Cyrus will be performing at the Frederick Fair Grounds on Sept. 19. He is one of the more famous headlining acts to grace the grandstand stage in the last few years.
The actor and musician has recently increased his superstar status with the success of his daughter’s television show Hannah Montana, his appearance on Dancing with the Stars and his position hosting the country version of American Idol called Nashville Star.
Cyrus hosted the CMT music awards in Nashville on April 14, 2008 alongside his equally famous daughter Miley and spent most of last summer working on the Hannah Montana Movie, which has only recently hit the silver screen.
Cyrus has released 10 studio albums as of 2007, the most recent being Home At Last, which hit in at number three on the billboard country albums chart. The single “Ready, Set, Don’t Go” was featured on the album, and reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s country singles chart in 2008.
In 1992 Cyrus’ most famous single “Achy, Breaky Heart” was his first groundbreaking success, remaining at the top of the country charts for nearly 5 weeks. Since then Cyrus has won numerous other awards including the American Music Awards Favorite New Artist, and Favorite Single in 1993, and the CMA award for Single of the Year in 1992.
Cyrus’ musical efforts lately have mostly been delivered through his daughter, and have been geared more towards a new and younger generation.
Following Cyrus in the line up at the Fair are other stars such as Brenda Lee, Larry Gatlin, and the Gatlin Brothers.
The popular rock band Foreigner, famous for their chart-topping song “I Want to Know What Love is,” will make an appearance on September 24.
Rising country music star Josh Turner will also be performing on September 25. Turner was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame, and nominated for a Country Music Award for best “collaborative video of the year” for his work with Trisha Yearwood in the music video for “Another Try.”
Tickets will be sold at $30-40 for all of the various performers. The tickets have a tendency to sell out fast, so Cyrus fans should send in their order forms early. However, according to The Great Frederick Fair website no ticket order forms postmarked before May 9th will be accepted, and all hand deliveries will be promptly rejected.
