Swarms of Middletown High School seniors crowded into the auditorium on April 5 during their first period block to hear the long-anticipated news from senior class advisors Deborah Leonard and Lisa Boyll: graduation is on its way.
Along with the celebration process, however, Leonard and Boyll informed the seniors about the work and events ahead.
Schedules were distributed, informing students of important upcoming dates. These included the Junior/Senior Prom, Mr. Middletown, graduation speaker and singer audition, Baccalaureate, and graduation rehearsals.
“The most beneficial part was the dates that gave us, because I’m really bad with those kind of things,” said MHS senior Angie Bernazani.
The advisors also discussed proper protocol for seniors during the graduation process and the ceremony itself.
Seniors voted about senior picnic details and for prom king and queen. Senior executive board members distributed unclaimed caps, gowns and announcements, and announced the final decision regarding honoring Kaity Wilson at the ceremony.
Following the meeting, the seniors filed into the cafeteria for an unexpected treat. MHS cafeteria workers, in honor of the senior meeting and upcoming graduation, purchased ingredients for, baked, and served cake.
“I think it’s very generous of them to pay for our food,” said Victoria Stowell, MHS senior.
Before switching to their second period classes, the seniors received information about prom guidelines.
The meeting, although extensive and, for some, overwhelming, was a much-needed opportunity for MHS seniors to understand what to expect in the upcoming weeks.
