Staff members from The Round Table, part of Middletown High School’s student media, brought home 12 awards from West Virginia University’s high school journalism competition on April 12.
The MHS journalism students visited WVU for a field trip that featured journalism workshops and the awards ceremony. The awards were given for stories that the students had previously written for the class and submitted in the competition earlier this spring.
Johanna Yee, an MHS senior, won five awards, which included first place in feature writing, first in opinion writing, second in critical review writing, second in sports writing and second in news writing.
MHS senior Ashlyn Miller took home three awards, including first in news writing, second in opinion writing and third in feature writing.
Samantha Carter, an MHS senior, placed second in photography and third in sports writing.
The first place photography award was given to MHS junior Jess Molander.
Jake Dzibula, MHS senior, placed first in the sports category.
As a Division I school, MHS competed against other schools that have more than 1,000 students.
