“Life as We Know It” is a hilarious and heart-wrenching comedy where two complete enemies are suddenly left responsible for their orphaned goddaughter.
Eric Messer, or “Messer” played by Josh Duhamel is a wild and crazy party guy who completes his look with a motorcycle. Messer’s best friend Peter played by Hayes MacArthur, and his wife Alison played by Christina Hendricks set up Messer with Alison’s best friend Holly Brenson played by Katherine Heigel.
Holly is a young entrepreneur running a very successful bakery in her town.
Holly and Messer’s first date is an absolute train wreck and the two never even leave Holly’s driveway.
After the disaster date Holly vows to never have anything to do with Messer again. However, Messer and Holly remain best friends with Peter and Alison, leaving the two very frequently together at different functions.
One evening Holly receives a phone call saying that her two friends were killed in a car accident. In the next few days Messer and Holly find out that they are named guardians over their friends’ daughter Sophie.
The movie shows the hectic lives that have suddenly been thrust upon the two, as they learn to balance busy schedules at work, learning how to take care of young infant, diapers and all, and learning how to set aside their differences and accept their new situation.
“Life as We Know It” sheds light on the serious situation that Holly and Messer face by adding humor as the two work together in raising a child.
