On Feb. 22, I will be spending my evening watching the 81st annual Academy Awards. Some would ask why I would spend my time listening to a bunch of random actors give fellow actors awards for their various performances.
Well the answer is for pure enjoyment.
When you’re a kid figuring out what to be when you grow up, so many say the same things: firefighter, police officer, ninja, superhero and movie or television actor.
In elementary school, any kid wants to be on television, be famous and travel the world, but they soon grow out of it.
Then there are those people who don’t grow out of it; they love the dream of being on television and then they fulfill it. Actors such as Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Sean Penn and others are the nominees for the 2009 Oscars and through their onscreen performances, they show their passion for acting.
I believe an award show like the Oscars is a great way to commend those who followed their dreams.
I hate when the press puts so much emphasis on the fashion of the Oscars. Who cares what Angelina Jolie or Will Smith wore on the red carpet? Sure it’s amusing to see what hideous outfit some wear, but I believe the press should report on whether or not the winners deserved the awards they received.
It is always on AOL News every morning after awards shows, The Best and Worst Dressed.
The Oscars is an awards show that praises those people who went after their dreams with all their heart and I believe it should be supported by the viewers.
The nominees will wait anxiously in their seats, the winners will rejoice with sappy speeches, the runner-ups will put on a happy face for the winners, and host Hugh Jackman will bring the Academy Awards to life for all viewers, including myself.
