The Final Four is decided: the Connecticut Huskies, Villanova Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Michigan State Spartans are the last four standing. None of the teams are shockers, but few had Michigan State beating Louisville or Villanova beating Duke and Pittsburgh.
Villanova is the hottest team going into the Final Four. Their four guard starting lineup has out worked every team they’ve played until now. Villanova plays number one seed North Carolina in their Final Four match up.
North Carolina is the most experienced team. Tyler Hansbrough, I believe, is on a mission to leave the Tar Heels with a national championship.
Along with Hansbrough, the Tar Heels have point guard Ty Lawson, who has been huge in the tournament. Look for him to have a rough game, though, against a deep Villanova front court.
In the end, it will be a close game, but I’ve picked the Tar Heels from the beginning; I have it 80-76, North Carolina.
The other Final Four match up is Connecticut versus Michigan State. Connecticut has been ripped by the press, saying they couldn’t score and weren’t deep enough to make a run. They made the run though the tournament; it wasn’t pretty but they did it.
Michigan State flew under the radar in the tournament. They proved to many they are a contender when they beat Louisville 64-52 in the Elite Eight.
Both teams aren’t known for their scoring and I don’t expect a huge scoring display. The matchup to watch is at the guard position with Kalin Lucas for Michigan State and A.J. Price for Connecticut.
This is a tough game to pick, but in the end Hasheem Thabeet should have a big game in the paint for Connecticut. Michigan State senior center Goran Suton is four inches shorter then Thabeet and shouldn’t be very productive.
If Connecticut can take control early, this shouldn’t be much of a game. I see Connecticut winning by double digits, 66-55.
