John Calipari is headed to The University of Kentucky to be the men’s head basketball coach. Calipari will try to return Kentucky basketball back to its glory days.
The last few years, Calipari has been turning the Memphis Tigers into a powerhouse. The same is now going to be expected from him at Kentucky.
Kentucky missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1991 this past year. The school hasn’t been known as an elite basketball team for awhile, which isn’t going to be accepted in Lexington for much longer.
Calipari is going to have a year of rebuilding before he’s expected to have Kentucky in the Final Four. He needs to go out quickly and recruit the big names.
Kentucky made the right decision with Calipari, though he is going to be great. After signing an eight-year, $31 million contract, he better be.
Before all the hype starts, Calipari has already told Kentucky fans that he isn’t an “emperor” and that he can’t guarantee anything. This isn’t Memphis anymore, though Calipari better turn things around quickly real quickly.
In the end, I see him bringing in better recruits and a scoring presence to Kentucky. He isn’t Adolph Rupp, but he is better then Tubby Smith and Billy Gillispie combined.
